Nestled in the breathtaking beauty of Topanga Canyon, California, Charissa and Corey’s wedding was a rustic dream come true. As their trusted wedding photographer, I had the honor of capturing the magic that unfolded at the enchanting 1909 wedding venue. From heartfelt vows exchanged amidst nature’s embrace to tear-jerking dance moments, this wedding was a celebration of love, family, and the beauty of simplicity. Charissa and Corey’s love story started in high school and has only grown stronger over time. With the majestic hills of Topanga Canyon as their witness, they exchanged personalized vows on a serene wooden deck. Guests were seated in a clean arena of amphitheater style seating, which made for easier viewing for several guests. One of the most exciting parts of the day for me were the wedding vows. It had been a long wedding season of religious weddings which meant that personal vows were far and few between. When filming weddings, there’s something about personal vows that always fills a film more deeply. (As a plus, it always gets me in my feels)
Guests were greeted post-ceremony with a delightful host of offerings. A sumptuous array of artisanal cheeses, delectable cured meats, and mouthwatering accompaniments ensured that guests had plenty to nosh on while waiting for bride and groom to finish their post-ceremony family session.
But it wasn’t just the food that stole the show; custom cocktails added a touch of personalization and sophistication to the festivities. From signature drinks mixologist-crafted concoctions, every sip was a celebration in itself.
And let’s not forget the meticulously arranged table settings that transported guests to a rustic wonderland. From the delicate floral centerpieces to the elegant table linens, every detail was thoughtfully curated to create an ambiance that was both charming and inviting.
While the wedding was an embodiment of rustic elegance, it was the groom’s choice of dance that left everyone in tears (including me). You know that tear-wrenching song that we all know vaguely even if we’ve never seen the Disney flik chock full of singing gorillas? No? Don’t worry, you almost didn’t need to.
Corey used “You’ll Be in My Heart” as a way to invite each woman who had played a significant part in his life onto the dance floor. It was a moment of pure vulnerability and love. Every single woman invited onto the floor was in tears. It was probably the most quietly meaningful part of the day, as everyone watched from their seats.
