Colorful DTLA Arts District Wedding at Seventh Place Celebrating Mexican Culture

share

Some weddings are steeped in tradition, others in ritual. Tammy and Hugo knew from the very beginning that their celebration would be about none of that — instead, it would be about joy, family, color, and community. They skipped the formal ceremony altogether and went straight into what mattered most: gathering all the people they loved under one roof for a night that felt like one long, unforgettable cocktail party.

Tammy and Hugo first met in college while studying graphic design. What started as friendship eventually grew into partnership, and now into marriage. These two creatives share not just a profession, but also a love for traveling, street art, and time spent with their big extended families. Their dog Ruca (named after the Sublime song) completes their little household, but their circle of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends makes their world feel endlessly full. As Hugo put it, their wedding wasn’t just about them — it was about honoring the community they’ve built together.

A Venue with Soul: Seventh Place, DTLA

The Arts District of Los Angeles is alive with murals, music, and energy, and Seventh Place (@seventhplace) was the perfect venue to capture that spirit. With its exposed brick walls, bow truss ceilings, polished concrete floors, and a sprawling 2,000-square-foot patio covered in passionfruit vines, the space felt both rustic and modern, raw and lush. The electric glass garage door made for an easy indoor-outdoor flow, letting the night unfold like a block party in the middle of downtown.

A Wedding That Broke All the Rules

From the start, Tammy and Hugo were clear: they didn’t want their wedding to feel like a production. Instead, they designed a night that leaned into their personalities — playful, colorful, and completely un-stuffy.

Guests arrived and immediately entered a world that felt like a mash-up of cocktail hour and nightclubd of rows of chairs or a processional, they found a cocktail bar courtesy of

@blackedoutbartendingla, chips and salsa laid out on colorful tables, and a favors station where everyone could grab a lotería card or a custom tile coaster to take home. Their DJ, @djdrewzapp, kept the playlist lively and unapologetically fun from the moment doors opened.

Tammy and Hugo spent their first hour mingling with guests, posing at the Photo Booth (@imagephotobooth_), and wandering the block with their wedding party to take portraits among the Arts District’s street art. Their catering team at @eastsidetacos made sure everyone had something delicious in hand, and when it came time for their grand entrance, they skipped the pomp and went straight for applause, hugs, and laughter.

The dance floor was the heart of the night. At one point, the couple surprised guests by wheeling out a paleta cart filled with custom popsicles — the kind of detail that felt perfectly them. Between bites of Mexican candy, popsicles, and endless trips to the dance floor, their celebration unfolded like a family reunion mixed with the best house party ever.

Why This Wedding Mattered

Tammy and Hugo’s wedding wasn’t about tradition or choreography. It was about freedom. It was about looking around a room filled with cousins, siblings, old classmates, and best friends and realizing: this is what love looks like when it’s shared.

In Hugo’s words, “We specifically knew we didn’t want something stuffy or super traditional; just, like, a chill way to look back and remember a special day.”

And it worked. Every image from this wedding is drenched in laughter, movement, warm color, and the kind of energy that only comes when two people know exactly who they are and how they want to celebrate.
